After lots of work, some trial and error, and long nights, the design of the website was finalised, and we have started the job of cataloguing, sorting and uploading images. To date, we have uploaded the Antarctic, Ecuador, Canada, New Zealand and Alaska portfolios.
Things are moving along steadily. The most time consuming part of the process is making sure each photo has a relevant set of keywords, location information, plus the all-important title and comments. If you can imagine that each photo might take a minute or two, plus if we add on the time it takes to make any necessary colour correction, spot-editing, etc, it ends up being a slow process. What has made this initial batch of photos take a bit longer is that the images are actually scans from slides. This adds in a few extra artifacts to the image such as film grain, colour-cast and dust, all of which needs careful assessment to ensure the image is of an acceptable quality before uploading.
Anyway, this has been a good start. We will continue to add the core of our images before tackling the ecommerce part of the site. At the moment, we are keeping the images as browse-only, since the ecommerce and marketing can really only be effectively done when there are enough images to make a proper impact. We of course remain humble, and do not presume that any of the images will sell, as the competition is huge! That will be a good topic for a future article...
In the meantime, we hope you enjoy looking at what we have so far and hope you will continue to drop back once in a while to see what is new.
